Deadpool film review

The movie has a great mixture of action, bloody and comedy scenes. Stitching up Wades mouth would be interesting (xmen origins: wolverine) But i guess that would eliminate the comedy for half the movie or maybe they could stitch it up and have him remove it after his mutant cells are activated. Don't watch it if you are queasy around blood and definitely don't watch it with your parents! Glad that Wade ended up with Vanessa in the end! Such a touching love story :P

Book Review: The Ghost Bride

The Ghost BrideThe Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Intriguing story. Sheds light into the world of Chinese superstition and religions like Buddhism and Taoism. This story follows the journey Li Lan takes as she tries to go back into the world of the living. Includes a murder, a love triangle/square and vengeful ghosts. Would have loved the ending to elaborate on Er Lang and Li Lan.

Book Review: Winterspell

Winterspell (Winterspell, #1)Winterspell by Claire Legrand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Surprisingly, I enjoyed reading this book. New York City, 1899 and the world of Cane are very similar. Both dark, manipulative, corrupt and immoral. For NYC, it was more of a psychological thing while in Cane, it was more physical. The thought process of some characters were twisted. Performing dissections on creatures? A life (or five) for a life. Thinking that some species are better than others. Sad that this kind of thinking is still true in modern society. Really sympathised with Clara for the betrayals she had to go through. The only person you can trust is yourself. I grew to like Anise and wish that she was given a chance to become 'good'. Her past really destroyed her, but there was hope for her to become better. Dr. Victor better be brought to justice. Can't wait to read the prequel, "Summerfall".

Book Depository Review Part 1

I used Bookdepository.com for the first time to order books and was really pleased with how quick the service was!

4:44 PM- When i checked out, I forgot to put the discount code. I emailed them asking if they could either cancel my order so i can place another order with the code, or could they help me add in the discount. Honestly expected them to reply after 2-3 days.

11:27 PM- They replied my email saying that they issued a 10% discount and paypal sent me a separate email mentioning that the refund has been made! The Customer Advisor was really friendly too!

For this website, they provide FREE delivery worldwide to over 100 countries! Plus an extra 10% off for Singapore customers!!! (probably for Chinese New Year, offer ends on 15 February)
They also have a 'Bargain Shop' section on their site with books that are 50% off or more! So awesome!!

Will update more when i receive my order :D

Book Review: Specials

Specials (Uglies, #3)Specials by Scott Westerfeld
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Love this series. Interesting to read about how the different surgeries affect each group of people. How differently Specials think, feel and act. At first, i felt that Tally was too weak after she became a Special. But through the book, she rewired her mind with the help of her friends. Wish that Shay's thoughts were expanded on. How she felt after she was cured. Overall, an engaging and unpredictable book. Would be interesting if this series was turned into a movie. Wondering what the ending implies though, since David is not a Special.

My experience working in a pet shop

I worked at a pet shop for a week in 2015, decided to quit as the hours were too long.
Originally, I wanted to find a job so i could support my cat, but since this job required me to work for 6 days a week, 10.30am to 8pm every day, I had no time to spend with my pets at all. Wake up at around 9am to feed my cat, shower and eat, reach work at 10.25am, work till 7.40-8pm, no lunch break (eat while working), reach home at 9.30, shower and sleep. It was exhausting and I felt like it was no use earning money for my cat when i wasn't even spending enough time with her. So I quit after 8 days as on the 9th day, I was travelling overseas anyway on holiday.

Things I regretted not asking during the 'interview' (basically the boss asking me to just fill out the form) - I didn't clarify if it was a full-time job, didn't ask what the job scope was in detail, number of holidays given.

The total number of hours we employees were working per week was 54. The legal max hours stated by M.O.M. was 44 if im not mistaken. Basically, I was and felt overworked.
My co-worker who started working there a month before me also didn't agree with how long we were working, but none of us dared to say anything/didn't know how to bring it up.
Even the delivery guy said that he gets the same pay as those new delivery employees.
Another thing that put me off was the fact that my boss lied to the customer. (small but still a lie) Telling them that he had to bring the tag home to engrave it when in actual fact, the engraving machine was in another shop in the same shopping centre. Having the customer make another trip down to the shop the following day. Also, pet shops that sell animals are supposed to get the customer to fill up a form and have a pre-sale screening. However, this shop doesn't seem to do that. During my time there, I witnessed one impulse purchase of a hamster. (Although the screening only extends to cats, dogs and rabbits, it would be nice to work for a company that actually has the animal's welfare in mind)
The good thing about working in this shop however, is the fact that us employees made an effort to converse with customers. Every time I visit other pet shops, I find that they are not making enough effort to get to know the customers. In this shop, my co-worker knew most of the customers even though she worked there for only a month!

Job scope for this particular pet shop
-stock taking
-organising the shop
-answering calls for orders
-cashier
-handling customer's order instore
-issuing invoice
-feeding the animals in the shop
-cleaning of animal cages in the shop

Before you accept a job, make sure you know what you are getting yourself into, especially if it involves a contract. (mine had no contract thankfully)

Book Review: Extras

Extras (Uglies, #4)Extras by Scott Westerfeld
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Didn't enjoy this book as much as Uglies, Pretties and Specials. I feel that the storyline was quite weak and an 'extra' in the series. Would have preferred the story to be about Tally instead of a new character, Aya. Even David would be more interesting. Aya's city seems to be quite shallow, only caring about popularity, which is similar to the situation in the bubble-head days.
