Book Review: Winterspell

Winterspell (Winterspell, #1)Winterspell by Claire Legrand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Surprisingly, I enjoyed reading this book. New York City, 1899 and the world of Cane are very similar. Both dark, manipulative, corrupt and immoral. For NYC, it was more of a psychological thing while in Cane, it was more physical. The thought process of some characters were twisted. Performing dissections on creatures? A life (or five) for a life. Thinking that some species are better than others. Sad that this kind of thinking is still true in modern society. Really sympathised with Clara for the betrayals she had to go through. The only person you can trust is yourself. I grew to like Anise and wish that she was given a chance to become 'good'. Her past really destroyed her, but there was hope for her to become better. Dr. Victor better be brought to justice. Can't wait to read the prequel, "Summerfall".
