Book Review: Beneath the Glitter, Where Beauty lies

Beneath the Glitter (Sophie and Ava London, #1)Beneath the Glitter by Elle Fowler
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The book started off a little slow and boring but it got more engaging towards the end. The storyline is predictable, mostly with the way the love triangles were going. However, the way the different characters were made interesting enough to read on! I like how real this series is, life is not always perfect. Surround yourself with genuine friends/family that will stick by you through the ups and downs.

Where Beauty Lies (Sophie and Ava London, #2)Where Beauty Lies by Elle Fowler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this more than the first book. The good thing about this book, it was more unpredictable, compared to the first one. I feel that they improved a lot on the storyline. Though there were some loose ends, the ending gave a sweet closure to the series!

Star Trek Beyond

No words can describe how amazing this film is!

*Spoiler alert* The prologue was was a heartfelt sequence that gives us insight into Kirk's thoughts on the long span of time they were in space on their mission. The first part of the movie was an intense action sequence. Really heartbreaking to see the USS Enterprise being torn apart in that fashion.

The movie was quite unpredictable and kept us on the edge of our seats. I would say, compared to the first 2 films, this film had no super impactful emotional scene. (that made me tear up) Probably because the scenes were too intense for tears to come out after that. The film ended with a lovely tribute to the old Star trek crew, Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin. The Star Trek films just keep getting better and better! Not going to spoil too much, so just go watch this in cinemas!

Book Review: A Perfect Death

A Perfect Death (Wesley Peterson, #13)A Perfect Death by Kate Ellis
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I felt like the story didn't have a good conclusion. Many loose ends. There were also many different elements to the story that made it a little confusing at times. Definitely won't recommend this to people who enjoy thrillers as this was almost boring to read.

Green Croft Review

Today, my dad and I decided to head over to Green Croft @ Fusionopolis for lunch.
First impressions, nice ambience. Has a clean and modern feel, the counter however feels like it belongs at a food court.

Green Croft sells healthy and affordable food. They also allow you to customise your order.
We went on a Saturday, so the place was empty.

They have this sign at the counter that tells you what is unavailable on that day. Not sure if it was updated as although the sign says that "Markisa" is unavailable, cups of Passion fruit drinks were on the shelf beside it. (Markisa = Passion fruit)

There was a 15% discount on the day we went, as part of their 1 year anniversary celebration!

Although the place is supposed to be 'self service', they actually brought the food to our table! (most likely because the place was empty so they were not busy)

Left: Passionfruit drink

Right: Ice Lemon Tea

Both of us got the 'Moderate' meal.

Left: Grilled Beef, Fusilli Pesto, Cherry Tomato, Broccoli, Mango, Honey Yogurt

Right: Roasted Chicken Thigh, Fusilli Pesto, Carrot, Broccoli, Egg, Honey Mustard

When we finished, we ordered two more 'Moderate' meals for my mom and sister. We were disappointed that there were more items unavailable. Some examples: broccoli, egg... It might have been because it was nearly 2pm and they close at 3pm on Saturdays.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. I usually HATE salads, so it is really surprising that I like the food here!

Book review: Dog Crazy

Dog Crazy: A Novel of Love Lost and FoundDog Crazy: A Novel of Love Lost and Found by Meg Donohue
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed it! I think most animal owners/lovers can relate to what the author writes in this book. This is the first 'dog book' I have read, so I have nothing to compare it to. In this book, the author correctly portrayed the life of a pet owner. How much love and joy a pet brings into a family, how they make the family complete. It is not just a pet, it is a family member. The author also touched on common breed stereotypes. For example, the misconception about the Pitbull breed is that they are aggressive. When in actual fact, they can be as sweet and loving as any other breed. The breed does not define the dog. The way the owner treats the dog and trains it will greatly affect it even more. I like how the author states in one of the lines in the book, that all dogs are not perfect, we (humans) are not perfect either. There are lots of things that animal or non-animal lovers can learn from this book. This book will also help those dealing with loss (pet or human) in the family. It is not about forgetting the person/animal, you don't have to do that to deal with loss. It is about remembering the life they had and cherishing it. The only problem I have with this book is the several F words used.

Book Review: The Siren

The SirenThe Siren by Kiera Cass
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kiera Cass gave an interesting perspective on sirens, which is quite different from how other films and books portray them. Quite a emotional story. At first glance, you might think that this is just a standard romance story, but it is more than that. Romance is just a small part of the story. The relationship between mothers (Ocean) and daughters (Sirens) are the main focus. It shows how different individuals may have different interpretations of what 'love' is. Kiera also touches on the fact that the people who love you, may not necessarily be your own flesh and blood. Really enjoyed reading this! Glad that Kahlen and Akinli reunited in the end, but I would have loved to read more about Aisling when she returned.
